I dissected the lady beetle, removing its wings and exoskeleton, and then its abdomen. I crushed the abdomen with a pestle, and that is what I ended up using for the amplification of the DNA.

Results

Wolbachia presence No
Confidence level Medium
Explanation of confidence level

Our arthropod negative control ended up showing up as positive, which could mean that there was unintentional cross-contamination during the procedure. While trying to keep that from happening to the best of our abilities, there is always going to be some possibility of unintentional contamination.
