Collection date | 09/13/2022 |
Captive / Cultivated? | Wild-caught |
Group | St. Albans School |
Observations | I found this spider on my lab table in class. It was the middle of the day and 68 degrees F inside. |
Putative identification | Arthropoda Chelicerata Arachnida Araneae |
Methods |
|
Extraction kit | DNeasy (Qiagen) blood and tissue kit |
DNA extraction location | Whole arthropod |
Single or Duplex PCR | Single Reaction |
Gel electrophoresis system | MiniPCR |
Buffer | TBE |
DNA stain | GelGreen |
Gel images |
|
Protocol notes | DNA Extraction: I made sure to crush the arthropod but it was too small to dissect. |
Results |
|
Wolbachia presence | Yes |
Confidence level | High |
Explanation of confidence level | I had a very bright DNA band meaning that I got a lot of the correct DNA into my tube. I contaminated my negative controls so, even though those show as positive when they theoretically shouldn’t, I am more confident in my results because of that. |
