Observations

On 1/29/2026, 10:00 am, we started to collect specimens near the parking lot in Science Dr using the swoop net. It was very dry and dead.

After 20 minutes of unsuccessful catches, we decided to move northeast to the small lake where there was more greenery and wildlife.

At 10:26 am, we caught our first specimen, a fly! At around 10:30, we found a few ant piles and decided to pick out some ants using soft tweezers.

Putative identification Arthropoda Insecta Hymenoptera

Results

Wolbachia presence No
Confidence level High
Explanation of confidence level

According to local data, roughly about 10% of hymenopteras carried Wolbachia. So, I found it highly unlikely that my specimen would have it.

Wolbachia 16S sequence
