Observations

All collections were made on August 26, 2026 outside the science building at the university. It had been raining earlier that day, and was overcast by the time groups went outside for collection. For insect collection my group used a beat net, d-net, scraped, and hit with hands. The insect I collected and chose to observe was a parasite (Order Blattodea).

Results

Wolbachia presence No
Confidence level High
Explanation of confidence level

I have a high confidence level for my results. My reasoning behind this is that my DNA quality was good and everything fell average like it was supposed to. Also, none of my DNA was contaminated from my knowledge while in the lab. The chances of having Wolbachia aren’t entirely high for Parasites, since only 40% are infected. Likewise, they are one of the top three most likely species to be infected with Wolbachia. So I’m confident that nothing went wrong with my DNA to cause negative results.

Wolbachia 16S sequence
Arthropod COI sequence
Summary The Blattodea was found to be negative for Wolbachia.
