Captive / Cultivated? Wild-caught
Group Pingry School
Observations

The Camponotus seemed to be attracted to the fallen tree. I believe a colony is most likely nearby due to the high number of Camponotus on the log.

Putative identification Arthropoda Hexapoda Insecta Hymenoptera Formicidae Camponotus Camponotus chromaiodes

Methods

Extraction kit DNeasy (Qiagen) blood and tissue kit
DNA extraction location Whole arthropod
Single or Duplex PCR Single Reaction
Gel electrophoresis system Standard electrophoresis system
Buffer TAE
DNA stain SYBR Safe
Gel images
Protocol notes

Insect trapping, DNA extraction, DNA amplification, gel electrophoresis, DNA sequencing and analysis

Results

Wolbachia presence Yes
Confidence level High
Explanation of confidence level

The gel contained positive fragments for Wolbachia and arthropod which meant that the Compodus contained both arthropod and Wolbachia DNA. My sequencing was good and when I blasted it, it confirmed both arthropod and Wolbachia.
