Observations
  • Kinsey (past lab partner) and I collected insects on August 27, 2024
  • Insects were collected from 1-1:30pm, my specific insect sample DERMAHF24-AN, was collected around 1:23
  • Most insects were collected from the ‘International Gardens’ across from The Learning Commons on campus
  • Most insects collected were inhabiting shrubs or grass, however some insects were collected airborne
  • Insects were collected using a net and jar. Kinsey operated the net and forceps, while I enclosed the insects in the jar when captured
Putative identification Arthropoda Hexapoda Insecta Dermaptera

Protocol notes

DNA extraction kit of in-house reagents was used.

Results

Wolbachia presence No
Confidence level High
Explanation of confidence level

I predicted that Wolbachia would not be present, and I extracted good quality DNA that was used during PCR and later during gel electrophoresis it was proven no Wolbachia was found.
