Observations | This pavement ant was the second caught ant from my collection. It liked the sugar on my glove and was not frantic nor did it run away. It crawled around the glove until it was submerged in the ethanol. Had a thin black shell that covered the entirety of its body. |

Wolbachia presence | No |
Confidence level | High |
Explanation of confidence level | I am highly confident that this insect did not contain Wolbachia. I know that the controls worked because the H2O control did not show any sort of smearing on the bands. This indicates to me that the process was done properly since H2O is not supposed to show any bands whatsoever. I know that this insect did not contain Wolbachia because the Wolbachia infected control showed a band on the gel electrophoresis, while the non-infected control showed nothing. My insect showed no bands for the Wolbachia specific primers, therefore I am highly confident that this insect is not Wolbachia positive. |
